Second Stage Round 16: Gimnasia LP - Deportivo Viedma 89-87

A very close game took place in La Plata between Gimnasia LP and Deportivo Viedma. Twelfth ranked Gimnasia LP (13-17) got a very close home victory over much higher ranked Deportivo Viedma (19-9). Gimnasia LP managed to escape with a 2-point win 89-87 on Thursday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. Gimnasia LP looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Deportivo Viedma's players. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Leonardo La-Bella (180-86) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 assists and American forward Brandon Nazione (202-94, college: E.Michigan) who added 27 points and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) during the contest. At the losing side forward Federico Mariani (190-92) responded with 24 points and 6 rebounds and Panamanian Josimar Ayarza (205-87, college: S.Mississippi) scored 18 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gimnasia LP moved-up to tenth place in South, which they share with Ciclista and Temperley. Loser Deportivo Viedma keeps the second position with nine games lost. Gimnasia LP will meet higher ranked Villa Mitre CF (#9) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Deportivo Viedma will play against CA Temperley (#10) and hope to secure a win.
