Everything went according to plan in Rio de Janeiro where ninth ranked Vasco Da G. (11-15) outleveled 13th ranked Joinville (6-20) 83-56 on Thursday. Vasco Da G. looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American David Jackson (195-82, college: Penn St.) who scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Luis-Gustavo de-Oliveira (190-91) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Four Vasco Da G. players scored in double figures. Vasco Da G.'s coach Dede Barbosa felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Felipe Vezaro (193-92, college: Texas A&M Int.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard Deonta Stocks (185-88, college: W.Georgia) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Despite that victory Vasco Da G. went down to tenth position due to points difference. Loser Joinville keeps the thirteenth place with 20 games lost. Vasco Da G. will face higher ranked Vivo/Franca (#3) in Sao Paulo in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
