There was an upset in Rio de Janeiro where higher ranked Caxias do Sul (14-12) was defeated by twelfth ranked Botafogo F.R. (7-18) 76-67 on Thursday. Botafogo F.R. forced 20 Caxias do Sul turnovers. The best player for the winners was American Cameron Tatum (200-88, college: Tennessee) who scored 21 points and 6 assists. The other American import point guard Jamaal Smith (175-85, college: N.Mexico) chipped in 18 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). At the other side the best for losing team was guard Caue-Borges dos-Santos (180-91) who recorded 27 points and 7 rebounds and swingman Pedro Mendonca (194-95) added 11 points and 4 assists respectively. Four Caxias do Sul players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Botafogo F.R. maintains twelfth position with 7-18 record. Loser Caxias do Sul keeps the sixth place with 12 games lost. Botafogo F.R. will face higher ranked Paschoalotto/Bauru (#5) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
