Regular Season Round 27: Osaka Evessa - Toyama Grouses 99-85

Rather expected game when 5th ranked Toyama Grouses (17-25) were defeated on the road by third ranked Osaka Evessa (15-27) 99-85 on Friday. Osaka Evessa made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Osaka Evessa outrebounded Toyama Grouses 36-22 including 29 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Toyama Grouses were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American power forward Xavier Gibson (210-88, college: Florida St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The former international forward Naoya Kumagae (194-90) helped adding 17 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Four Osaka Evessa players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was international forward Naoki Uto (188-91) with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 assists and American power forward Clint Chapman (208-89, college: Texas) scored 25 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Osaka Evessa maintains third place with 15-27 record having nineteen points less than leader Ryukyu GK. Toyama Grouses lost their tenth game in a row. They keep the fifth position with 25 games lost. Osaka Evessa will face league's second-placed Kyoto Hannar. at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Toyama Grouses will play against Hokkaido L. in Saporro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
