Regular Season Round 22: Aix-Maurienne - Poitiers 58-57

A very interesting game took place in Aix-les-Bains. It ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 13th ranked Poitiers (7-15) to fifteenth ranked Aix-Maurienne (8-14) 58-57 on Friday evening. Poitiers was ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 17-13 third quarter run of Aix-Maurienne. American-British point guard Akeem Williams (178-91, college: Mass.-Lowell) notched 18 points and 5 assists to lead the effort and American power forward Curtis Kelly (208-88, college: Kansas St., agency: HMS) supported him with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Even 14 points by American guard Morris Curry (181-87, college: Providence) did not help to save the game for Poitiers. Naturalized Guinean swingman Sekou-Omar Doumbouya (202-0) added 11 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Poitiers' coach Ruddy Nelhomme rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Aix-Maurienne moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Caen. Poitiers lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourteenth position with 15 games lost. Aix-Maurienne's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Quimper UJAP (#18) on the road where they are favorite. Poitiers will play against SPO Rouen (#9) and hope to win that game.
