Regular Season Round 26: Multiopticas Baza - Utrera 62-57

There was a surprise result in Alicante where eighth ranked Multiopticas Baza (6-14) beat higher ranked Utrera (9-12) 62-57 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Utrera won third quarter 21-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Multiopticas Baza dominated on the defensive end, holding Utrera to just 5 points in second quarter. They held Utrera to an opponent 22.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 31.8 percent accuracy of the winners. The best player for the winners was point guard David Garcia (180-93) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists. Guard Sergio Valdeolmillos (188-94, college: Academy of Art) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Montenegrin power forward Zoran Vilotijevic (206-90) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds and forward Andres Tejada (195-98) added 16 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Multiopticas Baza have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain eighth position in Group D-Permam with 6-14 record. Loser Utrera keeps the fourth place with 12 games lost. Multiopticas Baza will face bottom-ranked Sevilla 2 (#10) on the road in the next round. Utrera will play against the league's leader Coin (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
