Regular Season Round 24: Stjarnan - Njardvik 77-64

Date: March 10, 2018
Bottom-ranked Njardvik (0-24) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 77-64 loss to fourth ranked Stjarnan (13-11) in Stjarnan on Saturday evening. The hosts trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 33-13 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Stjarnan forced 22 Njardvik turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Stjarnan made 8 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Danielle Rodriguez (178-93, college: Utah) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 46 points (!!!), 12 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 blocks and swingman Briet Hinriksdottir (181-96) who added 19 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Stjarnan's coach Petur Sigurdsson used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American Shalonda Winton (180-91, college: Cleveland St.) with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 28 rebounds and guard Ina Einarsdottir (170-93) scored 12 points. Stjarnan maintains fourth position with 13-11 record. Loser Njardvik still closes the standings. Stjarnan will meet higher ranked Keflavik (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Njardvik will play against Snaefell (#7) in Stykkisholmur and hopes to get finally their first victory.
