Regular Season Round 38: Salon Vilpas - Kataja Basket 113-84

Korisliiga top team - Salon Vilpas (28-7) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed fifth ranked Joensuun Kataja (19-15) 113-84. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Joensuun Kataja. The game was mostly controlled by Salon Vilpas. Joensuun Kataja managed to win fourth quarter 24-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Salon Vilpas shot 64.1 percent from the field. Salon Vilpas outrebounded Joensuun Kataja 36-23 including a 31-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 54.8 percentage. Salon Vilpas looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American players dominated the game. Point guard Jaylon Brown (183-94, college: Evansville) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Guard Javontae Hawkins (196-93, college: Fordham, agency: Two Points) contributed with 25 points for the winners. Five Salon Vilpas players scored in double figures. Swingman Wesley Saunders (196-93, college: Harvard) replied with 28 points and 8 rebounds and guard Daniel Bejarano (193-91, college: Colorado St.) added 21 points in the effort for Joensuun Kataja. Salon Vilpas maintains first position with 28-7 record. Defending champion Joensuun Kataja keeps the fifth place with 15 games lost. Salon Vilpas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Joensuun Kataja will play at home against Kouvot (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
