Regular Season Round 7: Mieleras - Mexcaltecas 74-68

Rather expected game in Guanajuato where 6th ranked Mexcaltecas (2-5) were defeated by fourth ranked Mieleras (5-2) 74-68. They made 16-of-19 charity shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Mieleras forced 25 Mexcaltecas turnovers. Strangely Mexcaltecas outrebounded Mieleras 52-37 including 20 on the offensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for the former international guard Brisa Silva (170-84, college: Oklahoma St.) who led the winners and scored 26 points and 6 rebounds. Martha Castillo accounted for 10 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals for the winning side. The former international center Jazmin Valenzuela (187-89) came up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 19 rebounds and American power forward Toni Smith (183, college: Fresno St.) added 17 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Mexcaltecas in the defeat. Four Mexcaltecas players scored in double figures. Mieleras have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Gamos and Aztks. Mexcaltecas at the other side keep the sixth position with five games lost. Mieleras will again play against Mexcaltecas (#6) in Tepic in the next round. Mexcaltecas will have a break next round.
