There was no surprise in Kotka where 9th ranked Helmi Basket (5-20) was crushed by third ranked Peli-Karhut (19-6) 95-71. The game without a history. Peli-Karhut led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Helmi Basket's 32. Peli-Karhut forced 24 Helmi Basket turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. American forward Akilah Sims (178-94, college: IUPUI, agency: LBM Management) nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and international guard Anissa Pounds (174-90, college: Arkansas Tech) accounted for 25 points. Four Peli-Karhut players scored in double figures. International center Awak Kuier (194-1) came up with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and international guard Sara Bejedi (166-0) added 21 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Helmi Basket in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Peli-Karhut have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Honka. Helmi Basket at the other side keeps the ninth position with 20 games lost. Peli-Karhut's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Aanekosken (#10) in Aanekoski and are hoping to win another game. Helmi Basket will play at home against Forssan Alku and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
