Regular Season Round 18: Proteas - Panathlitikos 80-78

Eleventh-ranked Panathlitikos (3-15) made lots of trouble for ninth ranked Proteas (7-11) in Voula on Sunday. Proteas managed to secure only two-point victory 80-78. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts trailed by 11 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 10-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-78. Proteas dominated on the defensive end, holding Panathlitikos to just 7 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Panathlitikos 37-21 including 25 on the defensive glass. American power forward Diana Delva (188-88, college: Hartford) had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import Labrittney Jones (185-95, college: Arizona) chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was forward Antigoni Chairistanidou (188-91) with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Canadian swingman Cassandra Brown (188-92, college: Portland) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Four Proteas and five Panathlitikos players scored in double figures. Proteas moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Esperides. Panathlitikos lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 15 games lost. Proteas will meet bottom-ranked Panathinaikos (#12) in the next round. Panathlitikos will play against Esperides in Glyfada and hope to secure a win.
