Regular Season Round 26: Betanzos - Culleredo 89-65

There was no surprise when 14th ranked Culleredo (8-16) was crushed on the road by seventh ranked Betanzos (13-11) 89-65 on Sunday. The game without a history. Betanzos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Culleredo's 34. Betanzos forced 19 Culleredo turnovers and outrebounded them 53-33 including a 36-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Culleredo was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was guard Guillermo Pereiro (191-89) who scored 26 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Senegalese power forward Abdou Thiam (204-98) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Four Betanzos players scored in double figures. Betanzos' coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American swingman Ryan Burnett (196-92, college: Columbus St.) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Miles Burnside (196, college: Dallas Christian) added 14 points respectively for the guests. Betanzos moved-up to sixth place in Group A-B. Newly promoted Culleredo dropped to the fifteenth position with 16 games lost. Betanzos will face Ponferrada CDP (#8) on the road in the next round. Culleredo will play against the league's leader Marin (#1) and hope to win that game.
