Regular Season Round 19: Maccabi Haifa - Hapoel Eilat 80-90

Date: March 11, 2018
Very expected game when 12th ranked Maccabi Haifa (6-13) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Hapoel Eilat (9-10) 90-80 on Sunday. The game without a history. Hapoel Eilat led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Hapoel Eilat outrebounded Maccabi Haifa 37-17 including a 24-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Hapoel Eilat especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.1 percentage. It was a great evening for the former international swingman Amit Simhon (198-89, agency: Avi Zilberman) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points and 6 rebounds (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). American guard Jordan Loyd (193-93, college: Indianapolis) helped adding 21 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side American-Panamanian point guard Trevor Gaskins (188-89, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Pro Sports) responded with 16 points and American forward Reginald Buckner (206-91, college: Mississippi) scored 14 points. Four Hapoel Eilat and five Maccabi Haifa players scored in double figures. Maccabi Haifa's coach Offer Rahimi tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Hapoel Eilat. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Galil Gilboa. Loser Maccabi Haifa stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Hapoel Eilat will face Maccabi Rishon (#8) in Rishon Le-Zion in the next round. Maccabi Haifa will play on the road against Bnei Hasharon (#9) in Hod Hasharon and hope to win that game.
