Fourteenth-ranked Zaragoza (7-15) was very close to win a game against ninth ranked CB Canarias (12-10) in Tenerife. CB Canarias managed to secure only six-point victory 100-94. However their fans expected much easier game. Zaragoza was ahead by 2 points after three quarters before a 25-23 charge of CB Canarias, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 14-8. CB Canarias players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. Polish swingman Mateusz Ponitka (196-93) scored 18 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Greek swingman Kostas Vasiliadis (200-84) chipped in 23 points during the contest. Five CB Canarias players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Gary Neal (193-84, college: Towson) responded with 30 points and 6 assists and Serbian-Montenegrin forward Nikola Dragovic (206-87, college: UCLA, agency: BeoBasket) scored 20 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. CB Canarias maintains ninth position with 12-10 record. Zaragoza at the other side keeps the fourteenth place with 15 games lost. CB Canarias will play against higher ranked Valencia Basket (#3) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Zaragoza will play against the league's leader Real Madrid (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
