Everything went according to plan when ninth ranked Villa Mitre CF (15-19) defeated 11th ranked Gimnasia LP (13-18) in Buenos Aires 90-79 on Sunday. Villa Mitre CF made 26-of-33 free shots (78.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Gimnasia LP turnovers and outrebounded them 38-24 including a 27-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Gimnasia LP was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American power forward Eric Anderson (204-93, college: New Haven) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). His fellow American import Tony Criswell (206-91, college: Missouri) contributed with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Lisandro Villa (198-87) answered with 18 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and American forward Brandon Nazione (202-94, college: E.Michigan) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Gimnasia LP. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Villa Mitre CF have a solid series of four victories in a row. Newly promoted Villa Mitre CF maintains ninth place in South with 15-19 record. Loser Gimnasia LP dropped to the tenth position with 18 games lost. Villa Mitre CF will face Rocamora (#14) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Gimnasia LP will play against CA Temperley (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
