Regular Season Round 18: Panionios - Niki Lefkadas 73-68

There was no surprise in Athens where 6th ranked Niki Lefkadas (9-9) was defeated by third ranked Panionios (14-4) 73-68. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-8. But Niki Lefkadas won second period 19-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Panionios won last quarter 20-17. Panionios outrebounded Niki Lefkadas 40-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. American forward Katie Healy (185-94, college: St.Bonaventure) notched a double-double by scoring 20 points and 20 rebounds to lead the effort and Canadian-Jamaican center Jose-Ann Johnson (193-93, college: Duquesne) supported her with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Panionios' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 20 points and 7 rebounds by international swingman Elena Tsineke (174-99) did not help to save the game for Niki Lefkadas. American guard Hailey Dunham (188-87, college: USC) added 16 points and 7 rebounds. Four Niki Lefkadas players scored in double figures. They have a solid three-game winning streak. Panionios maintains third position with 14-4 record having four points less than leader Olympiacos. Niki Lefkadas at the other side dropped to the seventh place with nine games lost. Panionios' next round opponent will be league's leader Olympiacos in Pireus and it will be for sure the game of the week. Niki Lefkadas will play at home against Athinaikos (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
