Regular Season Round 25: Valur - Haukar 67-71

An interesting game for Haukar (20-5) which played road game in Reykjavik against their biggest opponent Valur (17-8). First ranked Haukar managed to get a 4-point victory 71-67. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 27-23. But Valur won second period 14-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Haukar players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. The former international swingman Helena Sverrisdottir (184-88, college: TCU) stepped up with a triple-double by scoring 16 points, 20 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners and American forward Whitney Frazier (180-92, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Two Points) chipped in 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Haukar players scored in double figures. At the losing side American swingman Aaliyah Whiteside (183-94, college: Georgia Tech) responded with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 16 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws) and the former international Berghora Tomasdottir (177-94) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Haukar have an impressive series of fourteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 20-5 record. Valur at the other side keeps the second position with eight games lost. They share it with Keflavik. Haukar will play against Breidablik (#7) in Kopavogur in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Valur will play on the road against Njardvik (#8) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
