Very expected game in Rio de Janeiro where 12th ranked Botafogo F.R. (7-18) was defeated by second ranked Flamengo (22-3) 90-84 on Tuesday. Flamengo looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Joao-Paulo Batista (205-81, college: Gonzaga) who scored 9 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international center Anderson Varejao (211-82) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Flamengo's coach Jose Neto used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was American Cameron Tatum (200-88, college: Tennessee) who recorded 19 points and 5 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Jamaal Smith (175-85, college: N.Mexico) added 15 points and 6 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Flamengo have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Paulistano. Loser Botafogo F.R. keeps the twelfth place with 18 games lost. Flamengo will face SKY/Basquete (#11) in Aldeota in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Botafogo F.R. will play on the road against Paschoalotto/Bauru and hope to win that game.
