Regular Season Round 19: G.Larissa-Faros - Aris 81-76

Date: March 17, 2018
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 10th ranked Aris (6-12) lost to eleventh ranked G.Larissa-Faros (7-12) in Keratsiniou 76-81. The hosts were already 11 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 23-17 Aris' run in the last quarter cut the lead to 81-76 at the end of the game. G.Larissa-Faros made 21-of-27 charity shots (77.8 percent) during the game. Aris was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American-Ukrainian guard Steven Burtt (189-84, college: Iona) who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points. Point guard Nontas Papantoniou (190-90) helped adding 17 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). At the losing side Montenegrin Ivan Maras (207-86) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Gary Bell (192-92, college: Gonzaga, agency: Higher Vision Sports) scored 16 points. Five Aris players scored in double figures. Aris' coach Panagiotis Giannakis tried various players' combinations and tested in total twenty players in this game, but that didn't help. G.Larissa-Faros moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Cretan Kings. Aris at the other side dropped to the eleventh position with 12 games lost. G.Larissa-Faros will play against Cretan Kings (#9) in Rethymno in the next round. Aris' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Thessaloniki PAOK.
