Regular Season Round 27: Vive El Masnou - Tarragona 64-70

Very important is a home loss of first ranked Vive El Masnou (15-6) against seventh ranked Tarragona (12-8) on Saturday night. Host Vive El Masnou was defeated by Tarragona in a tough game in Barcelona 64-70. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 14-10. But Vive El Masnou won second period 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Tarragona won last quarter 17-12. It was a good game for American forward Michael Balkovic (198-93, college: Caldwell, agency: Dynamics Global Management) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds. Daniel Tugores (185-95) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Tarragona's coach Bernardo Alvarez allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Albert Valle-Vives (-92) answered with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 6 rebounds and 12 assists and Antoni Gomez (190-94) added 21 points in the effort for Vive El Masnou. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Tarragona. They moved-up to fifth place in Group C-A, which they share with Sant Josep and Arenys. Loser Vive El Masnou dropped to the second position with six games lost. Tarragona will face Mataro Parc Boet (#9) at home in the next round. Vive El Masnou will play against Quart (#13) and hope to win that game.
