Regular Season Round 27: Weert - Groningen 66-79

Date: March 17, 2018
Eredivisie top team - Groningen (20-2) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat ninth ranked Weert (3-21) 79-66. The game was mostly controlled by Groningen. Weert was better in third quarter 23-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Groningen won last quarter 20-8. It was a quality performance for American guard Brandyn Curry (187-91, college: Harvard, agency: Inception Sports) who led the winners and scored 21 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Naturalized American swingman Jason Dourisseau (196-83, college: Nebraska) accounted for 10 points for the winning side. Swingman Daan Rosenmuller (193-95) came up with 13 points and point guard Roel Van-Overbeek (185-0) added 11 points, 7 assists and 4 steals respectively for Weert in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Groningen have an impressive series of fifteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 20-2 record. Weert lost twelfth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 21 lost games. Groningen will play against Den Helder (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Weert will play against the league's second-placed Leiden and hopes to get back on the winning track.
