Regular Season Round 19: Panathinaikos - Proteas 49-82

Bottom-ranked Panathinaikos is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 19th consecutive match to ninth ranked Proteas (8-11) 82-49 on Saturday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Proteas. Panathinaikos managed to win fourth quarter 13-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Panathinaikos to just 7 points in third quarter. Proteas dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Panathinaikos' 26. Proteas forced 19 Panathinaikos turnovers and outrebounded them 40-29 including 25 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for the former international guard Dimitra Kabouraki (167-93) who led the winners and scored 13 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 8 steals. American Labrittney Jones (185-95, college: Arizona) accounted for 20 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Swingman Katerina Tsineke (178-99) came up with 22 points and 8 rebounds and power forward Chinasa-Cynthia Ezedja (188-0) added 12 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Panathinaikos in the defeat. Panathinaikos' coach Giorgos Kantzilieris gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Proteas moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Esperides. Panathinaikos lost their nineteenth game in a row. They still close the standings. Proteas will meet at home higher ranked Niki Lefkadas (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Panathinaikos will play against Panathlitikos (#11) in Thessaloniki and hopes to get finally their first victory.
