Regular Season Round 23: Unicaja - Fuenlabrada 82-86

The most shocking disappointment of round 23 in the Liga Endesa was a home defeat of 6th ranked Unicaja Malaga (14-9) to seventh ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (15-8) 86-82 in the game for the fifth place. It ended the two-game winning streak of Unicaja Malaga. Unicaja Malaga was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 24-18 charge of Baloncesto Fuenlabrada, which allowed them to win the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for Latvian power forward Rolands Smits (207-95) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points and 5 rebounds. DR Congolese Christian Eyenga (201-89) helped adding 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Serbian point guard Nemanja Nedovic (191-91, agency: BeoBasket) responded with 24 points and the former international forward Carlos Suarez (203-86, agency: Court Side) scored 9 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place. Unicaja Malaga at the other side keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. They share it with Andorra and Gran Canaria. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada are looking forward to face league's second-placed Baskonia in Vitoria in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Unicaja Malaga will play on the road against Real Betis (#17) in Sevilla and is hoping to win this game.
