Eleventh-ranked Distrito Olimpico (6-16) gave a tough game to first ranked Gran Canaria (22-1) in Madrid. The visitors from Las Palmas managed to secure only two-point victory 74-72. However their fans expected much easier game. Gran Canaria forced 19 Distrito Olimpico turnovers. American guard Erica Covile (185, college: Temple) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. Her fellow American import point guard Starr Breedlove (168-93, college: UTEP) contributed with 19 points and 6 assists for the winners. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Center Daira Varas (193-89) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 17 rebounds and swingman Maria-Jose Bolonio (180-85) added 11 points in the effort for Distrito Olimpico. Distrito Olimpico's coach Juan Manuel Ruiz rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gran Canaria have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place in Group B with 22-1 record. Distrito Olimpico at the other side keeps the eleventh position with 16 games lost. Gran Canaria's next round opponent will be CVCD Granada (#10) at home and are hoping to win another game. Distrito Olimpico will play against the league's second-placed Valencia and hope to win that game.
