The game between closely ranked teams ended with fourteenth ranked Mondragon's (8-17) home victory over 15th ranked Zarautz (5-20) 66-57 on Sunday. Zarautz was trailing by 7 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 28-15 charge of Mondragon, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 25 Zarautz turnovers. It was a good game for guard Iker Barbero (192-92) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocks. American forward Jordan Rutherford (201-95, college: St.Gregory) contributed with 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Rutherford is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Mondragon's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American Victor Roberts (-95) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds and guard Jon Sanz (186-88) added 4 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Zarautz. Mondragon moved-up to eleventh place in Group A-A, which they share with Valle de Egues and BIOK2.COM OKE. Loser Zarautz keeps the fifteenth position with 20 games lost. Mondragon will face higher ranked Cantbasket (#4) in Santander in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Zarautz will play at home against Valle de Egues (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
