Regular Season Round 23: Promete - Leganes 62-57

There was an upset in Logrono where higher ranked Leganes (14-9) was defeated by twelfth ranked Promete (6-16) 62-57 on Sunday. Leganes was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 21-12 charge of Promete, which allowed them to win the game. They made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Leganes was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for guard Maria-Ylenia Manzanares (175-83) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds. Point guard Laura Marcos-Canedo (173-94, college: Grand Canyon) helped adding 14 points. Four Promete players scored in double figures. American forward Kiara Kudron (188, college: Gonzaga) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Maria Espin (180-89) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Leganes' coach Nacho Garcia tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Promete moved-up to eleventh place in Group B, which they share with Distrito Olimpico. Leganes lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the fifth position with nine games lost. Promete will face higher ranked Real Canoe (#7) in Madrid in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Leganes will play at home against Adareva and hope to win that game.
