Very expected game in Formosa where 12th ranked La Union (10-10) was defeated by fifth ranked Atenas (16-9) 92-85 on Sunday. Atenas made 20-of-21 free shots (95.2 percent) during the game. Atenas outrebounded La Union 36-25 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American guard Donald Sims (185-87, college: Appalachian St., agency: Pensack Sports) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points and 6 assists. His fellow American import center Jerome Meyinsse (207-88, college: Virginia, agency: Dutt Sports Services) helped adding 24 points and 5 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). The best for the losing side was naturalized Spanish guard Jonathan Maldonado (188-90) with 28 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and the former international swingman Alexis Elsener (196-88) scored 20 points. Four Atenas and five La Union players scored in double figures. Atenas maintains fifth place with 16-9 record. Loser La Union dropped to the thirteenth position with ten games lost. Atenas will face higher ranked Quimsa (#4) in Santiado del Estero in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. La Union will play on the road against Comunicaciones (#19) in Mercedes and hope to win that game.
