Regular Season Round 19: Panionios - AEK 71-69

Important game to mention about took place in Athens. Thirteenth ranked Panionios (5-14) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 4th placed AEK (12-7) 71-69 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of AEK. It looked good early as AEK took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Panionios had a 18-7 second period charge getting the lead and AEK was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 69-71. They dominated on the defensive end, holding AEK to just 7 points in second quarter. It was a great evening for American point guard Tyrone Brazelton (184-86, college: W.Kentucky, agency: Higher Vision Sports) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points and 5 rebounds. His fellow American import Markeith Cummings (198-88, college: Kennesaw St.) helped adding 14 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side American-Guyanese forward Delroy James (203-87, college: Rhode Island) responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds and Nigerian power forward Chinemelu Elonu (206-87, college: Texas A&M) scored 19 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Panionios maintains thirteenth place with 5-14 record. AEK at the other side keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. They share it with Promitheas. Panionios will play against higher ranked Kymis (#8) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. AEK will play against Lavrio (#3) having rather not much hope for a victory.
