There was a small surprise when thirteenth ranked Hapoel Afula (8-15) defeated at home 11th ranked Hasharon (8-15) 93-86 on Tuesday. Hapoel Afula looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for American point guard Keron DeShields (190-92, college: Tennessee St., agency: Slash Sports) who led his team to a victory scoring 32 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. Naturalized American forward Alex Rosenberg (201-91, college: Columbia) helped adding 20 points. Forward Omer Cohen (201-98) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 7 rebounds and 13 assists and American guard Vernon Teel (193-87, college: Loyola Mary) scored 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Hapoel Afula. They moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Maccabi H/H and Elitzur Yavne. Hapoel Afula will meet bottom-ranked Hapoel Migd.H. (#14) in the next round. Hasharon will play against the league's leader Maccabi K/G and will have a slim chance for a victory.
