Everything went according to plan in Kouvola where seventh ranked Kouvot (20-17) outscored bottom-ranked Lapuan Korikobrat (6-31) 99-72 on Friday. The game without a history. Kouvot led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Kouvot outrebounded Lapuan Korikobrat 46-23 including a 21-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international Ville Kaunisto (204-82, agency: Court Side) had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Thomas Gipson (201-93, college: Kansas St., agency: HMS) chipped in 24 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Kouvot's coach Jyri Lehtonen felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American guard Nick Kellogg (190-91, college: Ohio) with 15 points and 7 assists and his fellow American import center Jordan Richard (206-89, college: CS Los Angeles, agency: Slash Sports) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Four Lapuan Korikobrat players scored in double figures. Kouvot moved-up to sixth place. Lapuan Korikobrat lost tenth consecutive game. Loser Lapuan Korikobrat stay dead last with 31 lost games. Kouvot will face Espoo United (#9) at home in the next round. Lapuan Korikobrat will play against KTP-Basket in Kotka and hope to win that game.
