There was no surprise when 9th ranked U.Mar del Plata (4-16) was crushed at home by fourth ranked Zarate Indep. (12-10) 80-59 on Friday. Zarate Indep. outrebounded U.Mar del Plata 35-23 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was forward Patricio Aranda (197-89) who scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Jose Gaitan chipped in 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Zarate Indep. players scored in double figures. Forward Lucio Castellani (196-94) produced 14 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized Italian swingman Juan-Ignacio Varas (194-87) added 12 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.
