Regular Season Round 27: Umea - Nassjo 87-81

Rather expected game when 8th ranked Nassjo (5-22) lost on the road to sixth ranked Umea (13-14) 87-81 on Friday. Nassjo was trailing by 8 points at halftime but managed to get 6-point lead after three quarters before a 23-11 charge of Umea, which allowed them to win the game. They made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Nassjo helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American guard Arik Smith (185-93, college: Cal Lutheran, agency: Octagon Europe) who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 7 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Eric Gilchrese (183-87, college: New Hampshire) contributed with 19 points and 4 steals for the winners. Gilchrese is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Umea players scored in double figures. American guard Angelo Griffis (196-92, college: Rochester, MI) answered with 16 points and 5 rebounds and guard Jonathan Peleg (191-94) added 14 points in the effort for Nassjo. Nassjo's coach Felix Alonso rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Umea moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Boras. Loser Nassjo stay dead last with 22 lost games. Umea is looking forward to face higher ranked Sodertalje Kings (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Nassjo will play against the league's leader BC Lulea (#1) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
