Regular Season Round 25: Al-Qazeres - Gernika 54-85

9th ranked Al-Qazeres (10-15) was outscored at home by sixth ranked Gernika (13-12) with the biggest margin this round 85-54. It looked good early as Al-Qazeres took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Gernika had a 27-9 second period charge getting the lead and Al-Qazeres was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 54-85. Gernika dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Al-Qazeres' 30. They outrebounded Al-Qazeres 44-28 including a 30-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Talia Caldwell (188-91, college: California) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 8 rebounds. Mozambican power forward Leia Dongue (185-91) contributed with 15 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Gernika players scored in double figures. American swingman Brooque Williams (175-89, college: California, PA, agency: Two Points) answered with 10 points and 7 rebounds and power forward Rita-Esther Montenegro (188-82, agency: ProDep Management) added 9 points and 4 assists in the effort for Al-Qazeres. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gernika moved-up to fifth place, which they share with AE Sedis and Gipuzkoa UPV. Al-Qazeres at the other side keeps the ninth position with 15 games lost. Gernika's next round opponent will be AE Sedis (#6) in Seu D'urgell. Al-Qazeres will play on the road against Gipuzkoa UPV in San Sebastian and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
