There was a small surprise when ninth ranked Espoo United (14-23) smashed at home 7th ranked Joensuun Kataja (20-18) 82-60 on Saturday. The game without a history. Espoo United led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Espoo United outrebounded Joensuun Kataja 47-33 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Americans were the main players on the court. Guard Omar Calhoun (198-93, college: Connecticut) scored 28 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Jeb Ivey (190-80, college: Portland St.) chipped in 8 points and 10 assists during the contest. Four Espoo United players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was swingman Wesley Saunders (196-93, college: Harvard) with 19 points and 8 rebounds and center Kenneth Simms (206-86, college: Cumberland, agency: Interperformances) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. Newly promoted Espoo United maintains ninth position with 14-23 record. Defending champion Joensuun Kataja keeps the seventh place with 18 games lost. Espoo United will face higher ranked Kouvot (#6) in Kouvola in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
