Regular Season Round 23: Iraklis - Ethnikos 89-83

Very predictable result in Thessaloniki where third ranked Iraklis (17-6) defeated 8th ranked Ethnikos (12-11) 89-83. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Ethnikos won fourth quarter 24-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Iraklis made 24-of-30 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for the former international power forward Dimitris Haritopoulos (205-83) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds. Kostas Kakaroudis (204-83) accounted for 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Iraklis' coach Vangelis Alexandris allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Center Kostas Macheras (205-85) came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds and Estonian point guard Rait-Riivo Laane (179-93) added 14 points and 6 assists respectively for Ethnikos in the defeat. Five Ethnikos players scored in double figures. Iraklis maintains third place with 17-6 record having six points less than leader Peristeri GS. Ethnikos at the other side dropped to the seventh position with 11 games lost. They share it with Doxa Lefkadas. Iraklis will play against Doxa Lefkadas (#7) on the road in the next round. Ethnikos will play against Marousi and hopes to get back on the winning track.
