Regular Season Round 24: Rioja - GDKO Bizkaia 68-60

Round 24 in LF2 means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Azkoitia where host Rioja (13-11) beat league's leader GDKO Bizkaia (18-6) 68-60 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of GDKO Bizkaia. GDKO Bizkaia was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Rioja made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by GDKO Bizkaia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard Brenae Harris (178-92, college: Toledo) who scored 28 points and 9 rebounds. DR Congolese-Belgian center Harriet Bende (186-94) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Jone Azkue (180-95) who recorded 9 points and 6 rebounds and forward Grace Alonso-de-Armino (178-92, college: Freed-Hardeman) added 5 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rioja have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place in Group A, which they share with 3 other teams. GDKO Bizkaia at the other side dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. They share it with Ensino and Aros Patatas. They were replaced at the leadership position by Gran Canaria.
