Regular Season Round 3: Newcastle H. - Hornsby S. 104-79

There was no surprise in Broadmeadow where Spiders (2-2) were crushed by Newcastle Hunters (4-0) 104-79 on Saturday. Newcastle Hunters outrebounded Spiders 44-28 including a 33-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Spiders were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American guard Austin Thornton (195-88, college: Michigan St.) who had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). His fellow American import forward Sharif Watson (198-93, college: Ariz.Christian) chipped in 25 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Four Newcastle Hunters players scored in double figures. Newcastle Hunters' coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Scottish guard Patrick Emery (185, college: Coker) who recorded 19 points and 5 assists and Nicholas Brown added 17 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
