Regular Season Round 23: The Flexx PT - Umana VE 93-83

Round 23 in Serie A means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Pistoia where host The Flexx PT (8-15) beat league's leader Umana Venezia (17-6) 93-83 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Umana Venezia. They outrebounded Umana Venezia 42-29 including 30 on the defensive glass. 28 personal fouls committed by Umana Venezia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard Tyrus McGee (188-91, college: Iowa St.) who scored 29 points and 6 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Bulgarian power forward Dejan Ivanov (205-86, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 18 points and 9 rebounds. American forward Austin Daye (211-88, college: Gonzaga, agency: Alti Sport) produced 18 points and 7 rebounds and Croatian forward Hrvoje Peric (203-85) added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Four Umana Venezia players scored in double figures. Umana Venezia's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The Flexx PT moved-up to thirteenth place. Defending champion Umana Venezia dropped to the second position with six games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by EA7 Armani. Umana Venezia will play next round against strong Scandone AV trying to make it back to the top of the standings. The Flexx PT will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Fiat TO in Torino.
