There was no surprise in Kouvola where 9th ranked Espoo United (14-24) was crushed by sixth ranked Kouvot (21-17) 115-79. The game was mostly controlled by Kouvot. Espoo United was better in fourth quarter 27-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Espoo United 38-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. Kouvot shot the lights out from three nailing 15 long-distance shots on high 51.7 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Espoo United's players. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Thomas Gipson (201-93, college: Kansas St., agency: HMS) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international point guard Tuomas Hirvonen (181-96) accounted for 20 points and 10 assists for the winning side. Five Kouvot players scored in double figures. Nigerian-American forward PJ Alawoya (203-88, college: McNeese St., agency: Inception Sports) came up with 29 points and 5 rebounds (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field) and American point guard Jeb Ivey (190-80, college: Portland St.) added 23 points and 5 assists respectively for Espoo United in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Kouvot moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Pyrinto. Newly promoted Espoo United keeps the ninth position with 24 games lost. Kouvot's next round opponent will be KTP-Basket (#8) in Kotka. Espoo United will play on the road against Tampereen Pyrinto and hope to win that game.
