The game between fifth ranked Hawks (3-1) and 6th ranked Cougars (1-2) in Floreat on Thursday ended with biggest points difference. Hawks outscored guests from Hamilton Hill 114-78. Hawks dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Cougars' 42 and made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Cougars 38-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. Hawks looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a very good performance for the former international forward Ben Purser (200-90, college: Augusta) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Mitchell Clarke (185-99) contributed with 13 points and 8 assists for the winners. Guard Seva Chan (187-94) replied with 17 points and 6 assists and swingman Gavin Field (202-89, college: W.Georgia) added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Cougars. Five Hawks and four Cougars players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hawks moved-up to third place, which they share with Perth R. Loser Cougars dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. Hawks will face Flames (#7) in Rockingham in the next round. Cougars will play on the road against Redbacks in Northbridge and hope to win that game.
