Ninth-ranked SPO Rouen (12-14) was very close to win a game against sixth ranked Lille Metropole (17-9) on Friday. Lille Metropole managed to secure only one-point victory 70-69. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of SPO Rouen. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 70-69. Lille Metropole outrebounded SPO Rouen 43-23 including a 33-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Lille Metropole made 7 blocks. American forward Rakeem Buckles (203-90, college: FIU) notched a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and Florent Tortosa (198-89) supported him with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Even 13 points and 7 assists by Lithuanian point guard Ovidijus Varanauskas (188-91) did not help to save the game for SPO Rouen. Congolese power forward Earvine Bassoumba (205-96) added 14 points for the guests. Four SPO Rouen players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Lille Metropole moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Fos-Provence. Loser SPO Rouen dropped to the tenth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Evreux. Lille Metropole will meet higher ranked Chorale de Roanne (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. SPO Rouen will play against ALM Evreux (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
