Second Stage Round 9: Contern - Racing 60-95
Date: March 31, 2018
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Luxembourg: Racing (#1) and Contern (#3). Contern was crushed at home by 35 points 60-95 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Racing dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Contern's 30 and made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Contern 48-29 including a 40-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Racing made 7 blocks. American-Mexican forward Aaron Fuller (198-89, college: USC, agency: Haylett Sports) nailed a double-double by scoring 31 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and American swingman Scott Morton (195-87, college: Geneseo St.) accounted for 16 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. American forward Xavier Ford (201-93, college: Buffalo) came up with 25 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import guard Jaylen Bland (190-93, college: Cal-Riverside) added 13 points respectively for Contern in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Racing (15-12) have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. Newly promoted Racing maintains first place. Loser Contern keeps the third position with 17 games lost. Racing will meet at home league's leader Arantia in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Contern will play against T.Hesperange and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
