Regular Season Round 44: Pyrinto - Espoo United 107-87

Rather expected game when 9th ranked Espoo United (14-25) was smashed on the road by sixth ranked Tampereen Pyrinto (22-17) 107-87. It looked good early as Espoo United took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Tampereen Pyrinto had a 26-21 second period charge getting the lead and Espoo United was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 87-107. Tampereen Pyrinto dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Espoo United's 48. Tampereen Pyrinto forced 22 Espoo United turnovers. Strangely Espoo United outrebounded Tampereen Pyrinto 35-19 including a 25-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard JuanYa Green (188-92, college: Hofstra, agency: 3Eye) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 8 assists and the former international point guard Antero Lehto (185-84) who added 14 points and 7 assists during the contest. American guard Omar Calhoun (198-93, college: Connecticut) responded with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international swingman Samuel Haanpaa (203-86, agency: Blacktop Management) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tampereen Pyrinto moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Kouvot. Newly promoted Espoo United keeps the ninth position with 25 games lost. Tampereen Pyrinto will play against Kouvot (#5) in Kouvola in the next round. Espoo United will have a break next round.
