Regular Season Round 49: Kanazawa Sam. - Gunma 83-78

There was a small surprise in Ishikawa where fourth ranked Kanazawa Sam. (24-23) defeated much higher ranked Gunma (26-21) 83-78 on Saturday. Kanazawa Sam. looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American power forward Andrew Fitzgerald (202-90, college: Oklahoma) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and guard Ryotaro Honma (173-92) chipped in 17 points and 7 assists. At the losing side American forward Scootie Randall (198-90, college: Temple) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Hirotaka Kondo (187-82) scored 10 points and 9 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Kanazawa Sam. maintains fourth place with 24-23 record. Loser Gunma keeps the second position with 21 games lost. Kanazawa Sam. will face again league's second-placed Gunma at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
