Regular Season Round 25: Fanola SML - San Salvatore 86-54

There was an upset when higher ranked San Salvatore (7-18) was outscored by sixteenth ranked Fanola SML (5-20) in San Martino di L 86-54 on Saturday. Fanola SML dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to San Salvatore's 38. Fanola SML forced 20 San Salvatore turnovers and outrebounded them 40-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. It was a very good performance for forward Chiara Meroi (180-1) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Point guard Elena Fietta (167-95) contributed with 13 points and 7 assists for the winners. Fanola SML's coach Enrico Valentini felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international guard Cinzia Arioli (178-84, agency: LBM Management) answered with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals and forward Delia Gagliano (180-97) added 9 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for San Salvatore. Fanola SML maintains sixteenth place in A2 with 5-20 record. Loser San Salvatore keeps the eleventh position with 18 games lost. Fanola SML will face league's leader Sesto SG in Sesto San Giovanni in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
