Regular Season Round 24: Apollon Patras - Karditsas 73-78

Date: March 31, 2018
We should mention about the upset which took place in Patra, where higher ranked Apollon Patras (16-8) lost at home to thirteenth ranked Karditsas (8-16) 73-78 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Apollon Patras. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 5 points. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian center Stefan Djordjevic (206-89) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Sokratis Psaropoulos (191-92) who added 10 points and 4 assists during the contest. Karditsas' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was naturalized Israeli guard Marios Matalon (186-89, college: Wyoming) with 24 points and forward Vassilis Kitsoulis (204-83) scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Karditsas maintains thirteenth position with 8-16 record. Loser Apollon Patras keeps the fourth place with eight games lost. Karditsas will meet at home higher ranked Kastoria (#5) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Apollon Patras will play against Papagou in Athens and hope to secure a win and be promoted back to the A1 just one year after relegation.
