Regular Season Round 30: Den Helder - Groningen 73-95

Eredivisie top team - Groningen (21-2) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed eighth ranked Den Helder (6-22) 95-73. The game without a history. Groningen led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Groningen outrebounded Den Helder 37-21 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was American swingman Bradford Burgess (198-90, college: VCU) who scored 17 points and 5 assists (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). The other American import guard Teddy Gipson (191-80, college: Arkansas) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized Dominican point guard Tjoe de-Paula (185-81, agency: Court Side) who recorded 26 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and point guard Boyd Van-Der-Vuurst (188-99) added 12 points and 6 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Groningen have an impressive 16-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 21-2 record. Newly promoted Den Helder keeps the eighth place with 22 games lost. Groningen will meet at home Den Bosch (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Den Helder will play against Weert (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
