There was a minor upset when 4th placed Niigata Albirex (21-28) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Osaka Evessa (17-32) 74-69 on Saturday. Osaka Evessa made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Osaka Evessa made 9 blocks. American power forward Xavier Gibson (210-88, college: Florida St.) fired 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Takuya Hashimoto (186-94) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. American Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) produced 39 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds and the other American import power forward Lamont Hamilton (208-84, college: St.John's) added 9 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Osaka Evessa moved-up to third place, which they share with Shiga L-Stars. Niigata Albirex lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the fourth position with 28 games lost. Osaka Evessa will face Shimane Magic (#6) on the road in the next round. Niigata Albirex will play against the league's second-placed Diamond Dolphins and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
