Regular Season Round 20: Lattes Montp. - Nice 79-59

Very expected game when 11th ranked Nice (4-16) was smashed on the road by seventh ranked Lattes Montpellier (11-9) 79-59 on Saturday. Lattes Montpellier dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Nice's 30 and made 20-of-21 free shots (95.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Nice 39-21 including a 28-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Lattes Montpellier looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The winners were led by American forward Courtney Hurt (185-90, college: VCU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and Croatian-Australian center Suzy Batkovic-Brown (195-80) supported her with 14 points and 12 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Four Lattes Montpellier players scored in double figures. Even 20 points by guard Isabelle Strunc (180-91) did not help to save the game for Nice. The former international center Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova (193-93, college: Dayton) added 8 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lattes Montpellier moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Landes. Loser Nice keeps the eleventh position with 16 games lost. Lattes Montpellier will meet at home higher ranked Lyon (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Nice will play against Hainaut (#9) in Saint-Amand and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
