Regular Season Round 25: Joventut - Gran Canaria 92-91 OT

Bottom-ranked Joventut managed to get a fifth victory, breaking the series of twelve consecutive losses on Sunday night. This time they edged fifth-ranked Gran Canaria in Badalona 92-91. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-17. But Gran Canaria won second period 20-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Gran Canaria used huge pressure winning it 24-20 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 11-12. Argentinian guard Nicolas Laprovittola (190-90) nailed 22 points and 7 assists for the winning side and American forward Demitrius Conger (196-90, college: St.Bonaventure) accounted for 17 points. Dominican Eulis Baez (201-82, college: W.Illinois) came up with 19 points and 9 rebounds and American DJ Seeley (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) added 19 points respectively for Gran Canaria in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Joventut maintains eighteenth place with 5-19 record. Loser Gran Canaria keeps the fifth position with ten games lost. They share it with Andorra and Fuenlabrada. Joventut will meet higher ranked Zaragoza (#14) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gran Canaria will play against FC Barcelona (#3) having rather not much hope for a victory.
